13/01/2014

Last night, I dreamed of being awoken by 5 blonde-haired boys, about the age of 10, running past the bedroom door.  We went downstairs to ask how they got inside the house, they start being cheeky and I clip one around the ear.  They don't seem to care that we're very angry that they broke into our house and eventually tell us that they got in through the 1st floor bathroom window.  I threaten to call the police, they don't seem concerned.  They're not doing anything particularly objectionable, just sitting around the house, but it's the fact that they're there at all.  I call the police and the phone keeps disconnecting.  On the second attempt, I realise after dialling that I put the phone on the coffee table.  I pick it up to hear a person telling me, very quietly, to type one word into the phone using my touch tone keypad.  I'm impressed, the police obviously have prepared for situations where, for example, you're hiding from someone who has broken into your home and you don't want to speak to the person on the phone for fear that you'll alert the intruder so you can type your emergency in via touch tone.
After disconnecting 3 times, I stop trying to call the police and wake up.

Following on from that, I dream that I'm laid in bed.  There's a strange itch in my back and I can hear a sucking, smacking, chewing kind of noise. I realise that something is right behind me and eating its way through my back.  I can't bring myself to face it.  The noise becomes punctuated by crunching and I realise that it has reached my spine.  I try to reach around to grab it, finding that it's a roughly egg-shaped thing about 2 feet long and made of blubbery flesh.  I try to pull it off and it begins to eat frantically.  I scream hysterically and wake up.

12/01/2014: Introduction

Hallo,

So as an introduction, I'm a computer programmer who enjoys consuming rather a lot of, for want of a better term, strange media.  B-movies, indie horror video games, urban legends, that kind of thing.  Especially actual dreamlike things (stuff like Eraserhead, LSD Dream Emulator or Yume Nikki which this blog is named after).  I find them to be kind of a fascinating insight into kind of... the raw thoughts of whoever was making them.  No context, no plot, just a stream of consciousness... thing which I find very personal and thoroughly interesting.

Anyways, being a programmer and maybe a little but of an introvert lead me to spend rather a lot of time behind a computer, meaning I get rather a lot of time to indulge in such things.

I've also, throughout my life, been somewhat prone to nightmares.

I need to stress at this point, because I feel that it's really important, that in my day to day life everything is pretty great.  I've got a steady job, a decent house, a wonderful fiancée, a car, all that good stuff.  I'm not what I'd consider particularly depressed or otherwise distressed about any aspect of life in itself, I've just always had really strange dreams or really unpleasant ones.  I figured that maybe I should document them, if I can remember them.  I don't recall dreaming all that often but the ones I do remember tend to be pretty interesting.

If you're interested in dreams, that is.  I mean, I've always been told that it's not a good idea to discuss dreams with other people in casual conversation because the contents of your own head aren't that interesting to people, but this is the Internet.  What I dream about has to at least be as interesting as the least interesting Twilight fanfic.

-Some time in early January-
I'm not a fan of LARP in general.  I find it hard to disassociate myself from my own personality and invariably become myself in a funny hat, get bored, get drunk and ignore the plot.
I dream that I have found a way to enjoy LARP.  I install a program on my computer that allows me to follow a session in a first-person shooter style spectator mode, being an invisible observer, flying through the venue and listening in on people's conversations.  I'm happy with the knowledge that at the end of the day I can cook myself a decent hot meal easily and can sleep in my own bed.

-11/01/2014-
I normally fall asleep listening to soft spoken role play videos.  People pretending to conduct eye exams, run day spas, mix drinks and suchlike.  It's not for the content, I just find that listening to someone softly rambling about a particular topic is a good source of white noise that usually makes me pretty drowsy.
I dream that I wake up in the middle of the night.  I have earplugs in (which is normal) but I can hear someone speaking just behind my left ear.  It's relaxing until I realise that I'm not wearing any headphones and shouldn't be able to hear anybody at all.  The voice won't stop speaking and I can't determine what it's saying.  I roll over so my left ear is on the pillow, it continues speaking.  I realise that I have developed what I think in the dream is schizophrenia (but by my understanding of it in the dream is probably more like multiple personality disorder).  I realise that I'll never be able to keep this voice from talking to me constantly.

That wakes me up.

I fall asleep again and dream that the person sleeping next to me is not my fiancée, that they just look like my fiancée.  I know for sure that if I turn around to face them, they will turn into some kind of terrible creature that, being in bed, I have absolutely no chance of escaping from.  It will most likely kill me.
I wake up.  I'm still dreaming.  I realise that my fiancée has been replaced with some kind of terrible creature.
I wake up.  I'm still dreaming.  I realise that my fiancée has been replaced with some kind of terrible creature.  I hear a voice whispering just behind my left ear.

I actually wake up.
